Language-based learning disorder vs learning difference

Let us face it we are a society that loves to apply “pathology” to everything that is outside of what we want to believe is normal. We think normal is this very definable entity. The problem is that normal covers such a broad range. Is there a difference between learning disability and learning difference?

We all have learning differences. I learn better, when I listen to someone and take notes especially with weighty material. I can learn from reading, but it takes me longer and I do not remember and assimilate new information as well. Years in academics have taught me how I learn best. I use my knowledge of my learning differences to navigate the educational process. People with learning disabilities cannot just navigate around their learning differences. The disability interferes with the learning process and requires outside intervention.
